The Barbets

The bold spots, stripes, and candylike colors of Red-and-yellow Barbet make it easy to spot and instantly recognizable in the dry acacia forests of East Africa. One of five species in the genus Trachyphonus, Red-and-yellow is a good representative of African barbets (family Lybiidae), most of which inhabit dry habitats and consume a lot of insects, in contrast to most Asian and American barbets.
