This is the nasty mountain causing all the trouble for the Montserrat Oriole, the Soufriere Hills Volcano. This is a very active volcano, which started its current eruption in 1995. Since then the southern end of the island has had to be evacuated, and the capital city of Plymouth lies under a thick blanket of ash. Everyone now lives on the northern end of the island, and as of 2006 a new airport has been constructed, allowing for easy access from Antigua. This photo was taken from the Volcano Observatory in 2005.
