Adult Red-legged Kittiwake at St. Paul Island in the Pribilofs. This photo was taken at Polovina Point on our first afternoon. In the Aleut language, Polovina means "midland," and this area is roughly halfway between the seal rookeries at southernmost Reef Point and Northeast Point. Compared to Black-legged Kittiwake, note the red legs and larger eye of this bird (Red-legs feed nocturnally more often than Black-legs do), the shorter, thicker bill, and the slightly darker mantle.
