Our last major destination on Alaska Part II is Barrow, the northernmost spot in the US. It is also the true Arctic. As we fly over the tundra on our approach into Barrow, the land can be seen to be broken up into polygons. These are caused by the freezing and thawing of the permafrost layer just below the surface of the ground. It is a strange landscape endemic to the Arctic tundra.
