Field Guides: An Illustrated History
Read MoreWelcome, all, to a different kind of tour--one through time rather than habitats--a look back on who we are and how we made the journey from our beginnings in 1985 to the present time. This is one of the earliest photos of our founders--brother and sister John Rowlett and Rose Ann Rowlett at center, Bret Whitney and bearded Jan Erik Pierson in front of them--flanked by the first guides they recruited in 1986-1987: from left, Dave Stejskal, Chris Benesh, John Arvin, John Coons, and Doug McRae. In addition to being a remarkably friendly bunch, all of these guides brought expertise in birding and guiding across the Americas, from the Canadian Arctic to Tierra del Fuego. (Not pictured this 1990 photo are guides Terry Stevenson and Frank Oatman, who added many locations in the Old World to our early tour offerings.) Fair warning: we will be tooting our own horns a fair bit in this walk down memory lane, but every word is true! Photo by Bret Whitney.
