Often heard in Costa Rica, but rarely seen, Great Tinamou is the largest of the family Tinamidae, about 47 species of which are found in Middle and South America. Although they can fly, they prefer to walk along the forest floor in search of seeds, fruit, insects, spiders, frogs, and lizards. Male Great Tinamous incubate the eggs and raise the chicks without assistance from females. Jay Pruett managed this nice image on our Costa Rica tour.
