African Bush Elephant (Loxodonta africana), here the same two males from our Ghana tour, is the largest terrestrial animal that currently inhabits earth. The scarcer, smaller African Forest Elephant (L. cyclotis) was elevated to full-species status only in 2010, after extensive biochemical research. Photograph by participant Gregg Recer.
